Man’s eternal search for meaning has led him to scale the tallest peaks and travel to the farthest corners of the earth to find the answers he seeks. It’s always led me straight to the nearest record shop.
I’ve never had the itch to pack the gear, hire a Sherpa, and climb the mountain to find my truths. I’ve always gone to the back of the record shop to start my journey - that’s usually where the blues and roots music sections are located.
To stand at a rack of records and flip through the albums, one by one, excited that the next one might be the one you’ve been looking for or the one you never thought you’d find, is to know that you are alive. And when you do find the one, you feel righteous and ready for a profound experience.
I’ve had many profound experiences in my life that involve music.
What makes music so special to me is that it’s personal. As a music fan, you have favorite artists and songs. You have favorite life moments that are attached to those artists and songs. It’s not your music. It’s theirs. But you adopt it as your own. It becomes your music.
Music is an inseparable part of your life. It stays with you. You want to listen to it over and over again. You want to experience it. You want to share it and tell stories about it. It’s as personal as something so impersonal can be. The music becomes a part of your life and reflects your life’s defining moments. At least, that’s what it’s always done for me.
Has music done that for you, too?
If so, you must be a serious music fan.
Welcome to Their Music is My Life.
This is for serious music fans.
Their Music is My Life is based on a playlist that reflects the phases and stages of my life. I share my life lessons and experiences as a passionate music fan from the first song to the last. It's a collection of stories about the rise and fall of my ups and downs and how some of my favorite songs helped me revel in them and ride them out.
My life’s meaningful music moments have inspired me to be a better person and created a playlist of my life's greatest hits. So, sit a spell, pour a beverage, put on a favorite tune of your own, and join me in an inspired discussion about the inseparable connection between life and music.
This is the Their Music is My Life playlist.
This is my record collection.
This is music me.
This is career me.
