I wish Thompson's writing style got as much attention as his industrial capacity for drugs does. There aren't a whole lot of writers that can take the English language and bend it to their will like he could. Play it safe? Not a chance; whether that was with Mescaline or how to construct a paragraph.
As for which "Journey to the Center of Myself" track? Zero idea, so I'm going with George Harrison's "See Yourself," solely because "What Is Life" is playing as I type this. Seems like sound logic...
Kevin, I agree. Keith Richards, like Hunter, is known for his persona more than the person. Both of them - pushed it to the edges for sure, but they were accountable, well-read, wise, and pioneers in their craft. It's ok to be fascinated by their personas - but respect the people they are/were first and foremost.
Nice tribute. Will always be jealous of my friend in college that got to pick him up at the airport and was told to "drive around until I finish this bottle." Then he brought him to me (and a few others who were there). Never knew it was recorded (although it was broadcast on the college radio station) until I read this and looked for it. Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5x9SF9DJ9Eo
Didn't get an autograph but did get those of Burroughs and Ginsberg that same year, I think...
HST/Gonzo….there will never be another like him. So easily we connected with his writings…and attitude/aptitude for “the edge”…..
Absolutely. You turned me on to him way back when. Nice pic.

"See Yourself" ... you're warm.

It was not, uh, real productive!
Oh, man. That is very cool. I'll check out the recording today.
